Never played Tibia before? Don't worry — I'll quickly explain the basic concepts and give you an actionable plan to execute at the start of the game.

The World

There is only a bit of hand-holding on the tutorial island, and absolutely no level-scaling.
After Rookgaard, you will be completely free to explore the entire world at level 8.
You decide how you want to experience this world.
There's chill and relax and there's an adventure to be had.
You find a quest chest = you get some sweet sweet loot. You find a Dragon = you die.

My personal advice:
Do not spoil your journey with too much information from the start,
You only have one chance to experience this world for the first time.

The Combat

All players and creatures have a basic attack they perform every 2 seconds on the creature they're targetting, but other than that, the combat is mostly skillshots and reaction skills.
At the beginning you will be introduced to your first reaction skill, which will be replaced with 3 reaction skills after you choose your vocation at level 8.
Then, you'll learn various spells, and later you'll add all kinds of consumables to the mix.
Fallen Paradise gives you time to adjust and learn, but don't get mislead by the level 1 gameplay - the combat ramps up, which combined with severe death penalty, will make you pay attention to your screen at all times.

The Squares

Tibia is based on a grid-like tile system — everything happens on tiles.

1. The ladder sits on the red square — click that square to climb it.
2. The rat to the north is mid-step, yet it can already attack me: a moving creature always counts as already standing on its destination tile.
3. See where the damage number popped up? That's because the dragon already counts as standing on the square to the south.
4. A fire breathing Dragon! You can clearly see which tiles are safe.

General tips

1. Start conversation with NPCs by saying Hi near them, then try using keywords such as:
   help, mission, spells, offer, sell sword, buy rope
2. You begin your adventure on Rookgaard but once you reach level 8 you should choose your vocation by talking to the recruiters south-east of the temple, then board the ship to Mainland.
3. Even here, on Rookgaard, you can obtain life fluids and antidote runes to aid you in your escapades. On Mainland consumables become an integral part of your journey.
4. On the Mainland you learn spells from your vocation trainers — each vocation has its own trainer in every city.
5. You cast a spell by speaking its incantation — for example, cast Light Healing by saying Exura.
6. Turn your character to face any of the four directions with Ctrl + arrow keys, so you can aim your strike / beam / wave spells.

Your first steps

Here is a simple plan of actions that will help you start your adventure:

1. DON'T DIE. Death hurts.
2. Kill some animals, gather meat and ham.
3. Sell meat and ham there by saying hi → sell 3 meat → yes → sell ham → yes. Say offer to see what else you can sell.
4. Buy a Sabre there by saying hi → buy sabre → yes. Say offer to see what else you can buy.
5. You can kill some Rats to gain at least level 2 if you haven't yet (there are many Rat Caves all around Rookgaard).
6. Buy essential tools there: Rope, Shovel, Torch.
7. Venture out into the world using the north or west gate.
   Remember! Unlocking a new Bestiary entry by killing a creature for the first time awards a lot of experience points!

Advanced tips

1. Many weak creatures won't push or step onto boxes, chairs and other obstacles — you can use this to your advantage, especially on Rookgaard.
2. You can lay down your own fire fields, energy fields and the like to make enemies path around them instead of walking straight at you. Be careful, though: if a creature has no other way to reach you, it will ignore the fields and charge straight through them.
3. You don't have to reach for F1–F12 for everything — your mouse wheel fires hotkeys as well. Scrolling up, scrolling down and clicking the wheel each trigger one, and holding Shift or Ctrl gives you more. Test both the F-keys and the wheel and see what feels better for you.
